The Challenge
OpnUp is a digital therapy tools platform founded by NZ mental health clinicians who were tired of printing CBT worksheets, emailing PDFs back and forth, and watching clients lose homework between sessions.
They needed a full SaaS platform that therapists could use live in a session, whether in-person or over telehealth, to run interactive evidence-based exercises with clients and then assign follow-up work the client could complete on their own phone. Because this is sensitive mental health data, the platform had to meet the Privacy Act 2020 and NZ health information standards, support secure client sharing without forcing clients to create accounts, and produce clean clinical documentation therapists could save to client files.
Our Solution
We built the full OpnUp SaaS platform from the ground up on a modern React frontend with a Node.
js API and PostgreSQL database, designing and shipping 18+ interactive therapy tools including thought records, behavioural experiments, exposure hierarchies, values clarifications, and emotion trackers, each grounded in CBT and ACT frameworks. We implemented one-click secure client sharing using time-limited signed URLs so clients never need a login, PDF export for clinical notes with therapist branding, end-to-end encryption of client responses, role-based access for multi-clinician practices, and full Privacy Act 2020 compliance including NZ-based data residency.
We also built the marketing website and onboarding flow. The platform now supports 70+ active therapists running 200+ enhanced sessions.
