The Challenge
The Compton Cowboys are a collective of African-American men and women who grew up on horses in Compton, California, and use horsemanship to uplift inner-city youth and reframe narratives about their community.
They needed a digital home that matched the cultural weight of the brand - not a generic non-profit template, but a site that could carry long-form storytelling, merchandise, events, and a news/press archive while feeling visually distinct enough to hold up next to the documentary features, brand partnerships, and museum exhibitions the group is known for.
Our Solution
We built a custom Astro site with a bold editorial design language that leads with photography and long-form narrative over boilerplate non-profit copy.
The architecture covers the collective's origin story, programmatic work with local youth, merchandise storefront, event listings, and a press/media archive. Astro's static-first build gives the site near-instant loads on any connection including the slow mobile networks many of their core community members use, and the CMS structure lets the team publish new stories without touching code.
